Essential Question: How does your community (race, family dynamic, neighborhood, socioeconomic status, etc.) shape who you are as an individual in the HTHI community? The requirements for this project consist of several different writing pieces we compose such as journal entries and poems based off of different prompts given to us as well as the completion of at least 3 different collages to go along with them. As a class, we read The House on Mango Street and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian. These books discussed largely how the characters were shaped by the communities they grew up in. The class was also split into 6 different groups (12 total) and each group of 4 would focus on a community in San Diego to research and build a collage to represent what it is about as well as accompany it with a community poem. As an individual, I feel like I did quite well in this project. I am proud of my final products and had a fun time working in class.
